And since the CMA exam has a global pass rate of 45%, choosing the right prep course isn’t just a good idea. It might be one of the most important decisions you make on your road to the exam. 

UWord acquired the well-established Wiley CMA Review in 2023, and they offer a sweet combination of expert instruction, a massive QBank, and adaptive learning tools. I’ve spent a lot of time learning their platform, and I can see why a lot of candidates trust them with their CMA prep.

I think the thing that impressed me most was how cohesive the study materials are. Everything is linked. The video lectures reference the study guides, the practice questions reinforce the concepts covered in the videos, and the performance metrics tie it all together and keep your focus where it needs to be. Basically, the course bundle is put together really well.

UWorld’s CMA Review is a self-paced online course that gives you complete flexibility over when and how you study. The structure is laid out like the actual CMA exam blueprint, all organized into clear sections that cover every Learning Outcome Statement (LOS) that’s published by the ICMA.

When I tested the platform, I really liked how the study planner feature works. I entered the exam target date, when I planned to start studying, and how many hours I’d be able to study each week. Based on that, the system generated a personalized schedule that included lesson deadlines. And when life happens—because it always does, right?—the planner just adjusts.

So, UWorld’s video lectures surprised me a bit. I can’t tell you how many boring hours of video I’ve been forced to watch while testing prep courses. Or how many times I’ve questioned my life choices during some dry, dusty, let’s move to the next slide training video. But UWorld professors use lightboards to work through problems in real time, with colorful diagrams.  

Video Features:

Then there’s the mobile app. It’s not just a wimpy version of the desktop experience; it’s a full-featured study tool. You can download up to five videos in advance, so you can watch them offline, access the complete QBank, create flashcards, and track your progress.  The offline viewing feature is sweet. I honestly can’t think of another exam prep company that cares about your data usage or whether you might have wi-fi whenever and wherever you need to study during the day. 

Investment Value

When considering UWorld’s value, I, of course, looked at more than sticker prices. So, what did I look at? Let me tell you.

The Elite-Unlimited package has features that would cost a whole lot more with other providers. Things like their live boot camps, the printed study guides, and the 11th Hour Final Review.  Their unlimited access via StudyPass also stands out. The CMA’s pass rate sits at around 45% on the first attempt. Even knowing that, they’re still willing to let you keep studying at no additional cost until you earn your certification. Having said that, keep in mind that this isn’t a pass guarantee or refund option—UWorld isn’t offering either of those. 

UWorld also offers a 30% discount on the IMA membership fee and the CMA enrollment fee, something every CMA wannabe is going to have to pay. That 30% savings can offset the cost of the course. 

Assistance & Availability 

Customer support is available via email and an online form. And if you opt for the Elite-Unlimited package, the live boot camps also have group sessions where students can ask questions, but they only happen quarterly. You probably don’t want to wait three months for an answer!

As far as access goes, the Premier package includes one year of access for each part, but Elite-Unlimited offers access until you pass.

Becker has two main packages for the CMA, Advantage and Pro. Becker’s specialty is structured support and tech add-ons like Newt™ for immediate AI responses,  Adapt2U for personalized tests and exclusives in the Pro package, like one-on-one tutoring, success coaching sessions, and live online classes. Oh, and their pass guarantee.

UWorld, on the other hand, emphasizes its practice-heavy self-study. Their question bank is more than 6,200, compared to Becker’s, which is smaller. It’s also less expensive, and it’s potentially better for practice-focused learners. 

🆚 Choose Becker if you value one-on-one tutoring, AI tools, or prefer the safety net of Becker’s pass guarantee. 

🆚 Choose UWorld if you prefer the largest QBank, live bootcamps, and premium features at a lower price. 

UWorld vs Gleim

Gleim has operated in the CMA space longer than its competitors. The Traditional package includes SmartAdapt™ technology, their adaptive learning platform that identifies your weak spots and guides your studies based on them. 

Personally, I like their Premium package. I really liked the human element of having access to experienced mentors to help create a study plan, set goals, and offer encouragement. SmartAdapt™ does that to some extent, but again, I preferred having a personal—a human one—counselor available. 

However, when it comes to video content and practice questions, UWorld is a strong contender. Not only do they have 49+ hours of video and significantly more questions, but their live bootcamps also offer something unique. 

🆚 Choose Gleim if you want adaptive tech, or if you like the idea of having a personal counselor. 

🆚 Choose UWorld if you’d prefer engaging video lectures, want access to live bootcamps, or want a more modern mobile study experience.

UWorld vs HOCK International

HOCK International has a subscription-based pricing model. Their monthly fee includes access to all the materials for both parts of the exam. For anyone who studies quickly, this can work out to be a lot less expensive, but HOCK estimates that most students will take about 18 months to get ready for the exam. 

The program uses the ExamReady™ progress bar to help students gauge their readiness, and a PassMap™ learning system that lets you personalize your study schedule. Instead of the 7-day trial that UWorld offers, HOCK offers a 3-day trial, but they do offer the same 30% IMA membership discount. 

But UWorld pulls ahead with its number of practice questions. More than 6,200 compared to HOCK’s count of around 2,000. The live boot camps and 11th Hour Final Review also provide support that HOCK’s self-study model doesn’t match.

🆚 Choose HOCK if you think you’ll be able to quickly plow through your studies and would like to minimize upfront costs.

🆚 Choose UWord if you want a huge question bank, some variety in instruction, or if you think you’ll need live support or unlimited access.

UWorld vs Powers Resources (PRC)

Powers Resources (PRC) has positioned itself as value-focused, especially for international students. 

They operate globally and offer bundled CMA study packages rather than simple one‑off products. Each bundle combines self‑study materials with an 18‑month access window, a large question bank (3,500+ questions), and live virtual classroom sessions that are recorded so you can watch any missed classes on demand.

But in a straight-up comparison, they don’t match UWorld. Their question bank is about half the size, and their focus really seems to be on international students who are looking for a live classroom experience instead of self-study resources.

Bottom Line

In my opinion, UWorld CMA Review lands solidly in the top-tier of prep courses based on how comprehensive it is. 

The combination of 6,200+ practice questions, expert university-level instruction, adaptive technology, and flexible study options offers up a prep experience that doesn’t leave many gaps. When I tested the platform, one of the many things I really liked was the detailed answer explanations—they don’t just tell you what’s right; they teach you why. But if you’re looking for something more personal, like one-on-one tutoring, Becker would be a much better choice.
